this was a fantastic piece. much better than anything i've read from Lorenz, as an example
i disagreed (and agreed!) with many of it's very reasoned arguments backed up with mostly primary sources. best kind of piece. hopefully the answer to all of this is that
Really enjoyed reading this. Also, I'll add: VCs (and this is a radical oversimplication, but one I'll stand by) primarily spend their work hours either with other VCs or with founders/execs from their portfolio firms. It's a very particular filter bubble - a lot of VCs simply don't get that their companies are seen in very different ways by people outside that bubble.
Also a great point, and given that many of them live in SF, or tech hubs, spend a great deal of time in middle to upper class environments dealing with that set of problems, as well. Which probably explains the Juicero ;)
Really excellent and balanced synthesis of this whole scenario. It seems impossible to get this kind of coherence without moving some of the discussion off of Twitter and to a blog/newsletter. Thanks for taking the time to generate some sanity. Subscribed.
Fun post, but was hoping to get your thoughts on L'affaire Slate Star Codex! That seems like the current flashpoint in the VC vs. journalists conflict.
